All water contains some organic matter. All organic matter is bio-degradable, which means it can be broken down by microorganisms into harmless inorganic compounds like water and carbon dioxide. Once broken down, the matter has now become stabilized.  Aerobic microorganisms, commonly present in streams, lakes, ponds and other bodies of water containing “free” oxygen, must have an oxygen source to live; while anaerobic microorganisms thrive in areas that are devoid of oxygen. With sufficient dissolved oxygen, aerobic organisms can stabilize all bio-degradable organic matter, whether in fresh water or sewage. Bac-Terra® contains only beneficial aerobic and anaerobic microbes, allowing it to effectively metabolize organic pollutants in both fresh and wastewater and in virtually all environments. Algae: The species found in fresh water are generally one-celled though some species join together to form colonies. There are many different species of algae; some live in running water, some on the bottom of a body of water and other are free-floating surface dwellers, but each are different.

BAC-TERRA® HAS A UNIQUE ABILITY TO AID IN ALGAE CONTROL:

The algae population in a given body of water changes with the seasons, with some species growing well at low temperatures, others during the warm summer months. The amount of algae present in a given location is governed by among other things the availability of nutrients. The addition of organic matter to a body of water causes rapid algae growth. Excessive growth of algae will choke a lake or pond. Algae on the surface blacks out sunlight. The lake or pond now becomes overloaded with organic matter. Anaerobic bacteria produce the limited decomposition that does occur, releasing hydrogen sulfide and other noxious gasses. The water becomes murky and odorous. Bac-Terra®’s beneficial microorganisms help metabolize organic matter in water, decreasing the BOD and reversing the eutrophication of lakes and ponds. By changing the environment, undesirable forms of algae will no longer exist.

Odor removal is accomplished quickly! Bac-Terra®’s unique combination of microbes quickly begin to eliminate the decaying organics, dissolved oxygen increases in the water, beneficial aquatic plants begin to grow again, the pond begins to clear. One of the most forceful things noticed consistently, is that once water has been treated with Bac-Terra® and is then applied to the soil or plants, sodium stress is lessened in the soil and plant tissues after application. Chemical salts are preservatives and have a tendency to “lock up” many of the nutrients (and contaminants) in soil, water and plants. With Bac-Terra®’s ability to aid in the break down of the chemical salts, we not only release these nutrients to the plants for immediate uptake but can also break down (remediate or biodegrade) many of the contaminants present.
